One of Sean «Diddy» Combs’ defense attorneys, Anthony Ricco, has officially requested to withdraw from the federal sex trafficking case set to begin on May 5, 2025.

In a motion filed with the New York court, Ricco stated that although he had provided high-level representation, he could “under no circumstances” continue to effectively serve his client.

While the filing did not disclose specific reasons for his withdrawal, Ricco noted there were “sufficient reasons” protected by attorney-client privilege, which prevented him from providing further explanation.

Ricco informed the prosecution of his intention to withdraw, and according to the motion, there was no opposition from the prosecution.

Diddy’s Lawyer Resigns Weeks Before Federal Trial

«Despite offering the high level of defense expected by this court, under no circumstances can I continue serving effectively as counsel for Sean Diddy Combs,» Ricco stated.

Although his withdrawal must be approved by the presiding judge, Ricco assured the court that his departure would not delay jury selection or affect the scheduled trial.

Ricco, who joined Diddy’s legal team in September following the rapper’s arrest, was initially part of the strategy aimed at securing Combs’ release.

An effort that has so far been unsuccessful amid mounting allegations.

«Regretfully, but with respect, I request to be granted this release,» Ricco added in his formal motion.

Despite Ricco’s departure, Combs’ legal defense remains largely unaffected. The team continues to be led by Marc Agnifilo, an experienced attorney known for handling high-profile cases, and Teny Geragos, both of whom remain at the forefront of Diddy’s defense strategy.

«This change will not affect the overall direction of the case,» a spokesperson close to the defense remarked.

Recently, Combs filed a motion to dismiss the charge of «transportation for the purpose of prostitution,» arguing that the accusations against him are racially motivated.

His defense team contends that the evidence presented is insufficient and that the allegations are part of a broader defamation campaign.

«This case is about systemic racism,» one of his attorneys said in a recent interview, as Combs continues to face multiple accusations that have cast doubt on his public image.

Sean Diddy Combs, 55, is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting trial on federal charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution.
